Orlando Ballet
was founded in 1974 as Southern Ballet Theatre, a not for profit
arts organization by Barbara Riggins, Kip Watson and Patti Watson
Walsh. The company changed its name from Southern Ballet Theatre
to Orlando Ballet in February 2002 and is one of the oldest and
most renowned professional dance companies in the Southern United
States.
Directed by
the legendary Fernando Bujones, the company’s mission is to set
and promote the standards of dance not only as an art form, but
as a vehicle for bringing culture and artistic education to the
community. The company is made up of an international mix of gifted
dancers, whose world-class performances have garnered outstanding
reviews and brought ballet to a growing Orlando audience.
In addition
to our company performances last season, the Orlando Ballet performed
51 free outreach programs entertaining more than 75,000 individuals.
